Camp cooking, be it in the open or at an abandoned stockmen's hut, is pretty basic. With no fresh meat, it's just veggies and tinned meat or fish.
But then, on occasion, there's a treat. Fresh bread baked in the camp oven. Yes, real bread made with flour, water, salt and yeast, the four ingredients of bread.
It takes time to mix, kneed, rise, knock down, rise again and bake the bread, but it's worth it in the end. Margarine melted into the fresh, hot bread, too hot to handle at first. Home made raspberry jam. Not hard at all to eat half a loaf for supper. The rest makes lunch for the trip the next day. Three meals and supper in a 24 hour period. That's living! That's camping!
