Camping in the Australian outback while traveling on a motorbike and photographing the landscape and the adventure experience is hard. Make no mistake: it takes discipline, determination and guts.
Up, out of bed and going before daylight. Off to get the best light of the day for photographing the landscape, at or near the campsite. The campsite is chosen for it's proximety to the photography destination.
Back to camp and get a feed, attending to all the housework chores.
Break camp, pack the the bike and trailer and get going.
Take a few documentary photos along the way. There may be the odd good one among them.
Arrive at the next campsite in the late afternoon, maybe even coming on sunset.
Get what photos are possible, often without the opportunity to reconnoiter the site in a leisurely manner.
Select a camp spot and set up the tent and the camp generally, in the dark.
Light a fire and get a feed, the first since breakfast.
Yes, two feeds a day is all the outback photographer and camper can manage.
Sleep the sleep of an exausted, yet satisfied man, rocking up to repeat the whole struggle the next day.
